| Blue Sky Tavern - Friday
3/04/2000 |
|
Although Jeff and Mark
have been hosting some jam sessions at Blue Sky, Tim and I haven't been
down here in a while. They have turned the dining room into a pool room,
and they have also extended the stage. We really liked the improvements,
especially the larger stage.
My two favorite things at Blue Sky are Stella and
Kara. Stella brings the house down whenever she sits in. She can sure
tear up a Stevie Ray Vaughan tune. Stella is currently singing with the
band Leebo, and I highly recommend checking them out if you get a
chance. Kara is not only one of the sexiest girls on the planet, but she
can also make some really weird noises. Watch it guys...she's married,
damn it!
One of the best things about playing on the south
side, is that we get to hang out with Bridgette and Lisa. We are very
happy to have them as friends, and we always have a good time when they
show up.
Our favorite DJ, Leena was there. Lee and Hal from the
band Leebo were there. And a lot of other people were there, but I don't
know their names.
The most unusual event Friday night was when the P.A.
system blew up. The noise was so frightening that it woke me up. I
thought that I was being electrocuted. Lee saved the day for us, and we
can't thank him enough.
Musically, I think we played even better than usual
because of the cool stage, good sound system (when it was working), and
all the wonderful people that were there.
We are back at the Blue Sky Tavern next Saturday. So,
if you don't have anything better to do (and you don't), come on down
and party with us!

| Secret Gig - Saturday
3/05/2000 |
|
The secrets' out, and
we're glad so many of you figured out that the secret gig was at Fat
Matt's Rib Shack.
Randy Dorris booked this gig a while back, and we were
more than happy help him out as the Home Grown Blues Band. Tim was
unable to make it due to prior commitments, so Greg Billingsley (no
relation to Beaver's mom) handled the guitar duties. Of course Randy was
on drums.
This was, in the history of Blues Cat, truly a night
to remember. Greg tore the guitar up! I sure would've liked to have
heard Greg and Tim together. Whoa!
We didn't know if we had enough material to cover the
whole gig, so we called on some friends to help us out. A couple of 16
year old kids from the south side came up to tear up some Stevie Ray
tunes. I think the guitar player's name is Michael "Ice" Storm, and he really
rocked. His friend, who for now I will refer to as Mini Me, aka Big Cat
Brent, did a great
job on bass.
A couple of Greg's friends also helped out by adding
some jazzed out funk to the night Steve Bledsoe was on Bass (he was
quite a singer as well) and Ben Marshall was on drums.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who played. They all did a
great job, and we really appreciate it.
We came back for the last set, and we had Fat Matt's
rockin'. By the end of the set there were so many people dancing on
chairs and tables that the staff didn't even try to get them down. Oh
what a night! |
| Fat Matt's Rib Shack -
Sunday 3/06/2000 |
|
This was our last Sunday
at Fat Matt's until April, and to be honest, I think that a couple of
Sundays off might do us some good.
Fat Matt's rocked as usual, and of course we had a
great time playing for so many enthusiastic people.
Our friends from Bell South were there, as was Randy
Dorris. Randy sat in for a few tunes, which is always enjoyable. He will
be playing with us for the next couple of weekends as Mark will be in
the Bahamas. I wonder if they will let him wear his Tweety Bird outfit
on the beach?
We missed Courtney and her friends this week. They
have been a big help in keeping the energy level high on Sundays. We
sure hope that they come back to see us in April.
Blues Cat will be back
at Fat Matt's every Sunday in April!
